EDAS CE Software Support

Microsoft eMbedded Development Tools

With EDAS CE, applications can be developed using Microsoft's eMbedded Visual Tools 3.0 (1995-2000 edition). These tools allow users to write, download, and debug applications for the EDAS CE using the popular eMbedded Visual C++ programming language.

Interface to system, network, and serial ports uses the standard Windows 32 API. Interface to the I/O modules is done through the CE link API. Windows CE allows a company to leverage their Windows development expertise to deploy applications on the floor.

The Windows CE 3.0 operating system provides true multitasking with 256 priority levels allowing both high priority and lower priority tasks to be run simultaneously on the same device. This enables a single EDAS CE system to function as both the machine/process control system, and to also function as the machine monitoring system, providing real-time machine and process information to the company's manufacturing execution systems.

Third Party Communications API's for EDAS CE Enable Communications to Popular Protocols and PLCs

Several Communications Interface APIs allow the ability to implement real-time applications for industrial data acquisition and control capable of collecting and processing data from different resources into usable formats for plant operators, engineers and across company's enterprise information systems. These Communications Interface APIs allow EDAS CE the ability to implement bi-directional communications in order to exchange data between applications running on other devices supporting different protocols. Each API consists of two component functionalities, client and server communication. These functionalities enable an EDAS CE system to act as a client or "master" to other devices, initiating read and write operations on behalf of the system applications. It also allows the EDAS CE to emulate a device to respond to read and write requests (server functionality) and thus acts as a "virtual device" or "slave" to other devices. Embedded Web Server

The EDAS CE is available pre-loaded with WebDevice, a built-in web server that makes turning the EDAS CE into a custom monitoring or control device as simple as writing HTML and script.

WebDevice is a full-featured web server complete with push technology, a built in scripting language and ODBC database capability.

The push technology allows WebDevice to "push" real-time data to applets or other applications. Applets are included to provide real-time display of data in a browser. The applets include analog meter, table, panel, chart, and alarm.

The scripting language (WebDevice Script) provides the capability to read and write the devices I/O, read and write to the file system and perform a wide range of math and control functions. The script language allows the user to build web pages that include real-time data.

The script language also supports ODBC database interface, allowing WebDevice to update and query data from any ODBC compliant database. This allows a WebDevice application to update a corporate database with real-time data from the plant floor and to query data from the database for display to a user in their browser.
